Motorists driving to and from the North Carolina Fourth of July Festival in Southport are being asked to be patient and use caution by festival organizers, law enforcement and first responders. Vehicles along the parade route from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 4 will be towed; traffic will be restricted on N.C. 211, N.C. 87 and N.C. 133 to Southport 9-11 p.m. on July 4.

The parade will assemble at Atlantic Avenue and Moore Streets, travel west on Moore Street, turn north on Howe Street, turn right on Fodale Avenue and disassemble at the J.C. Building. Motorists are being asked not to park along the parade route 6 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. on July 4; cars that are parked then will be towed.

Officials are also asking those at the festival to adhere to a traffic flow pattern when leaving Southport, especially after the fireworks and closing of the festival, to expedite safe travels for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The two main exit routes from Southport will be N.C. 211 (Howe Street) and East Moore Street. Motorists using East Moore Street will be directed to Leonard Street and Jabbertown Road; from Jabbertown Road to N.C. 87/133, only right turns will be allowed.

o NC 211 and NC 87 (Sawdust Trail), straight ahead or right turn only to NC 87. Sawdust Trail right- and left-turn only. No access to River Rd. at the intersection from Robert Ruark Dr.
o NC 211 and Dosher Cut-Off, straight ahead or right turn only
o Right turns only at Jabbertown Road and NC 87/133
o NC 87 and Dosher Cut-Off at Progress Energy, straight ahead and left turn only
